Good Measure
Temporary Sculpture Series by Wong + Megirian
2021
Inspired by the incidental sculptures created by everyday acts of convenience and efficiency - gravity-defying stacks of dishes piled high on a drying rack, unwieldy towers ferried by the body to avoid a second trip - each image records a precariously balanced composition.
Bringing together natural and found objects with a collection of large-scale art objects designed and commissioned specifically for the project, the series of photographed arrangements was intended to showcase a selection of the breadth of material practices and exceptional skill embedded within the Western Australian craft community.
Native timber forms, cut and turned by George MacFarlane Reid and Tony Docherty; coloured glass forms, mouth-blown by Peter Reynolds; stoneware forms, wheel-thrown by Anika Kalotay and Serena Pangestu; and corten steel forms, cut and welded by Joanna Brown and Geoff Green-Armitage.
The resulting images were presented as a suite of large-format prints as part of group show, Fair Isle, Presented by Perth Festival in association with DAADA gallery, 2021.
